Do you know the Secret of Obedience?

My critique partner, Liv Rancourt, has a sexy new m/m short out this Friday, and she  stopped by to tell us a little about it!

Thanks so much for having me here today, Amanda! You’ve really come full circle with this story, from before it had a title to the happy-release-day celebration. Getting a story ready to fly is always an adventure, and I so appreciate your feedback. You made The Secret of Obedience better! Of course, you do get a shout-out in the dedication. *grins* The other thing I mention in the dedication is that all proceeds from this story will be donated to Nova High School, Seattle Public Schools’ alternative high school.

There are a couple of reasons for that. First, I wrote this story for a charity anthology that got put on hold.  I saw the call for submissions, volunteered, wrote the story, then waited for a couple months.

When the “temporarily on-hold” seemed to be morphing into an “indefinitely on-hold”, I decided to send it to Evernight for their RomanceOnTheGo line. I really like the characters and the way their story worked up, and didn’t want them hiding on my hard-drive forever.

When Evernight accepted the story, I was thrilled, but it did feel odd to think about making money off a project when I’d intended to raise money for someone else. Since Nova is pretty close to my heart, I decided to direct anything I earn to them. My oldest kid attends Nova, and many of the kids who go there fall somewhere on the LGBTQ rainbow.

An unfortunate number of Nova students are homeless, or living more independently than most other high school kids. For some, Nova is the main source of structure in their lives. The teachers, principal, and staff are all caring and dedicated, but like most public schools, their resources don’t come near to matching their needs, and I want to do what I can to help.

I hope people buy The Secret of Obedience, and I hope they fall a little bit in love with Ronnie and Sang. It’s a fun story, with a bit of a twist at the end, and I’m excited to be sharing it here today. Thanks again!

Ronnie Durand is a country boy who transfers to the University of Washington after two years at Central. He’ll have to give up playing football, though finishing his education at a major university in Seattle – and being out and proud without having to look over his shoulder – makes the sacrifice worthwhile.

But finding friends at a huge school is tough, especially when the hottest guy Ronnie meets makes him doubt his own sanity.

Sang’s been on his own a long time. He’s only a couple steps away from living on the street, and he’s got dreams so big they don’t leave space for a steady boyfriend. Then he meets Ronnie, who just might be strong enough to break through his barriers…as long as Sang lets him in on one big secret.

About the author, Liv Rancourt

I write romance: m/f, m/m, and v/h, where the h is for human and the v is for vampire … or sometimes demon … I lean more towards funny than angst. When I’m not writing I take care of tiny premature babies or teenagers, depending on whether I’m at home or at work. My husband is a soul of patience, my dog’s cuteness is legendary, and we share the homestead with three ferrets. Who steal things. Because they’re brats.

I can be found online at all hours of the day and night at my website & blog (www.liv-rancourt.blogspot.com), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/liv.rancourt), or on Twitter
