I know, I know, it’s not Friday, but I can never pass up a chance to share my writing, so…here I am, with Sneak Peek Sunday! I’ll be back tomorrow with my month-end book round up, but in the meantime:
The deal is to post six paragraphs from a work in progress, so I chose Best Served Cold, a story I just finished the first round of edits on. In this scene, Rhia’s come up with a plan to get at the man she holds responsible for the death of her parents, and now all she has to do is convince Akira to go along with it.
Which shouldn’t be too hard…
His hand comes to rest on my hip, and I lean into him. “Does this crazy idea involve you going back to Boston where you’re safe?” His free hand strokes over my knee.
“Not exactly. You know Archer’s trying something different this time around, looking for investors for a start up.”
His breath is warm over my lips as I lean in, desire flickering to life in his eyes. “This. This attraction. You feel it too,” I murmur. “We make him think we’re like any other young couple wanting in on the ground floor. He’s never met me.” I shift closer. “He’s got to know who you are. So instead of throwing myself at Archer, I’m yours.” Nothing. Nothing in his face beyond that tiny flame of lust, carefully banked. “It’s safer. You can keep tabs on me, you don’t have to worry about me getting into a spot I can’t get out of.”
“And you’d be…what? My secretary? Trophy wife?”
Gathering my courage, I capture his face with my hands and kiss him. Hard. “Lover. Partner. Something along those lines.” Lover. I blush at the thought of his body on mine, and I drop my hands to my lap. “We play the power couple for Archer.”
See you tomorrow, my pretties. In the meantime, check out some of the other snippets in Sneak Peek Sunday.
